With the Eternals film directly in theaters, Marvel Comics is ratcheting up the stakes of the divinity race in comics. In November 10's Eternals #7, Thanos forcibly took over leaders of the Eternals, but in February 2022 the companion is shining a perch on a forgotten '70s villain named Uranos , casting him arsenic an inspiration for Thanos, and possibly even a crueler villain than the Sore Giant.

In February 2022's Eternals: The Undying comic book one-dead reckoning, Marvel Comics' prevalent Eternals author Kieron Gillen partners with Ryan Bodenheim for something the author calls "particularly bleak" - framing Uranos as Marvel's version of Logan Roy from the hit demo Ecological succession.

"In my earliest notes, I described him American Samoa taking the place that Morgoth does in Midriff-Earth's mythology," Gillen writes in his newsletter. "Having finally started watching Successiveness latterly, I smiled, As I got another comparing. He's the Wonder Creation's Logan Roy."

Those are monolithic comparisons for a character that since 1973 has only appeared in sestet Marvel Comics - with four of them being alternate reality stories as part of What If?. Gillen, ever the research-heavy writer, knows the character cured and has been planning to give him the spotlight for some time now.

"I've been teasing Uranos for the whole black market in the main series, and then acquiring a unplanned to properly introduce him is genuinely thrilling. Uranos is one and only of the characters who just about intrigued me when researching Eternals – clearly enormously great to their mythology, but with only a fistful of pages he's even on," Gillen writes. "Trying to give a philosophical grounding to this void in the kernel of the Eternals is absolutely my jam."

According to Gillen, Bodenheim has designed Uranos ahead of his first story with him as the conduce character. While they're non revealing what he looks ilk just yet, the writer says information technology's "really smart" and "hugely inspiring for me in turn."

Gillen calls Uranos the "omnigenocidal big uncle" to Thanos, and in a elbow room they divvy up other relation - they were both created past the iconic comic record book writer/artist Jim Starlin.

"This is a account about some of the darkest periods in the Eternals saga, every bit two of the worst people in the Wonder Universe progress to have sex each other," says Gillen. "Less Meet Cute, more Meet Fulfill."

Although Thanos didn't appear in the Eternals film, there's a hypothesis that the film proves the Mad Titan unexpectedly saved Earth .
